I am definitely not new to flying, I am pretty sure I was the ripe old age of 5 or 6 when I took my first flight, and when I was 11 I began flying (to Winnipeg) all on my own! Look at me go.
In the past few years though, flying has become more and more of a pain in the butt! I really want to travel and experience things, but sometimes I wish it was a nicer experience. Am I alone on this when it feels as if the moment you step in to an airport more than half of the people forgot that their mothers taught them about this magical thing called manners?
It is hit and miss for sure. Take today for example. The lady at the check-in desk, she was super nice and begged me to bring her with me on vacation. I am down with that, thanks for being cheerful at 7am I do appreciate that before my morning coffee. Then we get to customs. Now, I know they have to put their game face on, but….awkward silence and dirty looks are so not necessary! Not to mention a lack of listening skills. I was only asked 3 questions and 2 of them were the same….good interrogation skills that’s for sure.
What can you do though, I try my best to be pleasant, I know that ‘customers’ or the general public can ruin your day in seconds when in that type of role, but guess what so can you! My day is not ruined, but after silent conversation like that I was feeling pretty uncomfortable.
I guess what I am getting at is, its Christmas be a little more cheerful, because guess what if you are generally pleasant to the people around you more than likely they will be nice to you as well. So if you are travelling for the holidays make sure to smile and maybe avoid being at the airport at 7am…on a monday, the staff may be a little grumpy!
Happy and safe travels to everyone out there this Christmas!
