Hello again day dreamers!
As many of you may know I am in the process of moving and since moving day is less than two weeks away my television services have been terminated. This might be a good thing, considering exams and final projects are happening next week, but I don’t know what to do with myself without it! However, when there is a will there is a way!
I wish I could say I spent countless hours working out since I had no TV, but that’s just not the case. Instead I decided to re-watch some old Penn & Teller’s Bullshit episodes online (if you haven’t heard of it, shame on you, look it up and enjoy!) Anyway, this is going to relate to fitness eventually I promise! So there was an episode on ‘New Age Practices’. Included in this was talks of yoga, or as they called it stretching!
This got me thinking, sure they made some points about overpaying for stretching and the countless products that come with it and of course all of the inner peace stuff that goes along with it. Some of these points are true, but the inner peace talk doesn’t bug me! I have taken yoga classes before and I love it and feel totally refreshed after, but maybe I’m just into the ‘new aged bullshit’ as they would say. Anyway, I often agree with the episodes and they always look at both sides of an argument, but I was surprised by the yoga bashing.
A few years ago I went on a total yoga kick and I had never felt better! I wasn’t sore, especially my knee which I have constant issues with, I felt leaner, more flexible and to be honest very zen! Ha! Anyone can have their opinions and most people always have one or two points that anyone can agree with, but I am really wondering how do you all feel about yoga?
Is it really an effective workout or is it a hippy/zen mumbo-jumbo money grab?
I think it made me feel good and most things that make you feel good in life you have to pay for, except for true love…aw. So, sorry Penn, maybe I am going to continue spending money, but heck at the end of the day if it can chill me out, it must be doing something right!!!
Until next time day dreamers!

It doesn’t surprise me that Penn and Teller did a Bullshit episode on yoga, haha. I used to be in the same camp as them — “Why would I want to sit around stretching for an hour when I could be doing a good weight training session?” But I tried the yoga class they have going at my gym, which is a bit higher intensity, and it killed me. I consider myself to be pretty fit but there were some poses where I was having the “screw it I’m just going to collapse into the fetal position and give up” types of thoughts. I still don’t think that yoga by itself can be considered a FULL workout routine, but it’s a really good addition to resistance training and cardio, maybe one or two times a week.
And I hate to admit it, but I really like new-age zen-hippie-hipster-bullshit too. :D

Oh yeah, I totally agree! Who cares what other people think. At the end of the day we feel great after and that’s what counts!!
