Good Morning Daydreamers,
So I finally gave in and read the first Hunger Games book by Suzanne Collins. I often don’t read or watch movies that have a large amount of hype around them. More often than not I am disappointed with the result. I began this book with the mindset of I probably won’t like it, but I will check it out anyway. Well let me tell you, within two chapters of the book I couldn’t put it down. Fantasy type books are not my thing, but there was something about the writing and the character building that totally sucked me in!
For those of you who don’t know the book is set in the future state of the United States of America. Each year to keep the 12 districts in check they hold the Hunger Games. A boy and a girl from each district are put in an arena, controlled by the Capitol to fight to the death. The story follows a girl from district 12 and her journey through the hunger games.
Now from this description this is not the typical book I would pick up, however the characters are so relatable, you are constantly rooting for them and the government control of the districts and of the children is somewhat maddening! If you want an exciting and sometimes graphic adventure this is the book for you. Also if you haven’t watched the movie, I recommend reading this first. I was really happy that I was able to build my own characters for myself before watching actors play the roles.
My Rating: 5/5
