I am pretty sure I am still in recovery mode. I can speed walk faster than this week has gone by and it’s not even over! Last week was the Roger’s Cup Tennis Tournament. This is a 9-day professional level tournament. In the event world this means 9 days of pulling your hair out… fun! The sunshine held out for the first part of the week, but by Thursday we were dealing with rain delays and questions about what happens now!? Surprisingly though most guests still made the trek out and enjoyed themselves nonetheless!
I don’t work directly with Tennis Canada, however we host an executive suite at the tournament. What this means for us is hosting 2 sessions per day for 90+ people. It was a long planning process of working with coordinators, many lists, Will Call, parking passes and several other logistics. Just another day in the world of event planning I suppose! Even though I was under pressure and a little frustrated at times it was an amazing week! I love the thrill of deadlines and I love being busy to the point where I barely have time to eat!!! I don’t know why but it is just my thing!
I was lucky enough to visit the Rexall Centre over the course of the week and really take in all of the sights! I am not sure if I am quite ready to work directly with professional sporting events, but it would be pretty darn cool!! This was a great learning experience to see a glimpse of the behind the scenes of the staff over at Tennis Canada, but I can imagine their week was a touch more stressful than mine!
I also managed to have the weekend off, so I was able to enjoy a match myself. I didn’t get a chance to take photo’s during the week, but I did snap a few when I was attending the finals on Sunday!
And the winner of the 2012 Men’s Roger’s Cup Singles Novak Djokovic!!!!
