When we first arrived at our new place, the lawn was looking a little ratty. It was over grown with weeds and its was in desperate need of a mow. This past weekend D invested in a small push mower (yay!!), sod was put out back, and I bought all the fixings for a little garden! As much as I love the outdoors and nature, I have never really gardened before. Other than helping my mother pull weeds on occasion at our old house and at the cottage, I am brand new to this.
For a first timer, I felt it went over pretty well! D let me pick everything as it was my little project, so I started with some edging rocks, picked out some nice bright red mulch, then onto plants and flowers! Not knowing too much about flowers (remember I am a tree lady…flowers are a totally different degree!!) But I think I went for low maintenance options, by going with annuals. Either way they are all very pretty!! So here is what I went for:
- White and pink Pontentilla shrubs
- Salvia farinacea (Mealy Sage)
- Pink Petunias
All in all, it is a pretty simple garden, but I am proud of my little front yard oasis! And for a first try I think I did alright!! Here are just a few pictures to enjoy, the first three are in the same order of the plants listed above, for your reference!
Ah, the great outdoors…of suburbia!
