    • Bahama-mama!

Posted at 9:11 AM by morningdaydreams, on April 11, 2016

As I enjoy life as a new mom and enjoy this year I have at home with B, I have decided to take advantage of being able to travel. So it was time for us to enjoy some sun! At the end of March the whole family headed down South for a much needed vacation in the Bahamas.

It was a great week and everyone from my parents, my brother and sister-in-law and D made it down for a few days in the sun! Here is our mini get away, according to my iPhone.

    • Spring break!

Posted at 8:45 AM by morningdaydreams, on March 22, 2016

      Hi all,

Lucky for us it has not been a bad winter in Toronto at all! Regardless it’s always better in the Bahamas! The family and I are escaping for a mini vacation. I wont be posting while I am away but do watch out for a Vegan Eats post later this week.

Lots and lots of updates for you when I return! I can’t wait to share.

      See you in the sun!

      Until next time day dreamers.

    • Mom life: traveling with baby.

Posted at 9:12 AM by morningdaydreams, on February 16, 2016

When it comes to everything baby, I do lot of research before I do anything. Before heading off to the Bahamas I read a lot about traveling with a baby. So I thought I would share what tips I got and my experience to help you the next time you travel with a baby. Before I get into what I packed, what I really needed and what I would do differently. Let me start with this:

      • Plan early, make a list of what to pack, only over pack on the important stuff if you can’t buy it where you are going (aka diapers, formula).

When planning for this trip I felt like a total eager beaver. Bennett was pretty much ready to head out the door two weeks before the plane took off. So here was my packing list for a 5 day trip:

      • Diapers (I packed based on 10 changes per day plus extras just in case)
      • Little Swimmers!
      • Wipes – large travel pack
      • Change pad (from my diaper bag)
      • 2 light sleepers
      • 4 summer outfits
      • 1 light sweater
      • 1 pair of pants
      • Summer hat
      • Baby Monitor
      • Thermometer & Tylenol (just in case)
      • Travel size shampoo, diaper rash cream & vaseline
      • Travel stroller
      • Carrier
      • Formula and 4 Bottles (two 4oz & two 9oz)
      • 1 Soother
      • 2-3 Toys & books

This is what we rented, borrowed or purchased (since we own a condo) if traveling to a hotel, rental or friends, you may need to add these to your packing list OR ask the hotel if they have these items for rent.

      • Pack n’ Play
      • Car Seat
      • Activity jumper (our neighbours happened to have one.. this was just a bonus item!)

I don’t think I went over board with any of my packing items (maybe diapers…but you really never know), all of the baby items except for his swimming diapers fit in a carry on sized rolling bag and his diaper bag. I was hesitant about buying formula in the Bahamas, as I didn’t know what brands I would find, however I was pleasantly surprised to find they have the exact formula I use and it was cheaper, even in American Dollars! (can you say stock up???)

For this trip I did not travel alone, so carrying multiple bags, a stroller and a baby wasn’t really an issue. I will however be travelling alone at the end of March, my advice is if you are travelling alone opt for a carrier rather than a stroller, as you will not have enough hands for everything, so either rent or borrow a stroller at your destination if needed. Also if you can pack all baby items into a your own bag and only bring a small diaper bag on the plane with you, maneuvering will be a lot easier.

Overall, flying with a 4 month old was fairly easy. He was a great flyer and was able to nap in my arms after his bottles and he was happy to people watch and look out the window. Every child is different, so I can’t say this will be everyones experience, but I would say attempt to stay on the babies usual schedule and it should make the experience as smooth as possible. As I travel more and as Bennett goes through different life stages (I realize a 4 month and a 10 month old would be a vastly different experience) I will be sure to post more on the subject with new tips!

    • A bachelorette: Bahamas

Posted at 9:14 AM by morningdaydreams, on February 1, 2016

Last week I was so lucky to travel with some amazing ladies to celebrate my girlfriend E who is getting married at the end of February. Our little Bahamas bachelorette worked out perfectly as my parents were able to watch baby b, while I enjoyed some time with the girls.

It was a short and sweet trip filled with WAYY too many laughs, some crazy golf cart treks, a very serious search for Beyonce’s beach estate and making a new FaceTime friend ;) Maybe E should get married every year so we can do this all over!!

      Love you girls!

    • London calling.

Posted at 3:05 PM by morningdaydreams, on March 17, 2015

      Hello Day Dreamers,

I may have been a little sad to see my brother and his wife move to England in November. Who really wants their family to move far away?? Then again I now have an amazing excuse to go to the UK! Last week I traveled to London for a quick one week visit with T & F. I have never been before so I was super excited and they had a super packed itinerary for me too!

I flew over night and arrived bright and early in London and in an effort to get me adjusted to the 5 hour time change, we went straight out to Borough Market for lunch and exploring. This is also when I decided I will now start my own savory pie shop in Toronto. Pieminister… oh man SO good and they had more than one veggie pie option! We then took a long walk home along the Thames. Oh and of course we went to visit the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

After a quiet night in, I woke up ready to go on Sunday. We checked out the Tate Britain, which had a really cool mix of modern and classical art. We then went home to get ready for a nice walk through Battersea Park with the pup and on to a dog friendly Sunday Brunch at a local pub. It then seemed VERY fitting to head out to the O2 for you know a good ol’ American style country and western show. Yup that is right. My first ever country concert was in England – go figure! Anyway, Jason Alden and Lady Antebellum were fantastic!

On Monday morning my brother and I hit the town, starting out a fantastic day at the Imperial War Museum, heading out for a fish and chip lunch and ending the day at the Camden Market. Where we found the most interesting ‘rave’ store ever – Cyberdog. Neon and black light clothes for everyone, even babies!

Next on the docket, the Tower of London. I can’t help that I have a weird obsession with old timey prisons and dungeons and this was a high priority tourist destination for me! That night went for high tea at the Wolseley, and made it our dinner before rounding off the day by seeing The Ruling Class play starring James McAvoy (even better looking in person by the way!!!) We ended the evening by taking a double-decker bus home. How very British!

I love that in the background there is a very modern building (nicknamed the shard as it resembles a shard of glass). The mix of centuries is why I love Europe so much!

By Wednesday, my legs were aching and I was pretty pooched from the 4 days of intense sightseeing! So T and I only planned one activity for the day. So off to Harrods we went. I browsed through the obscenely expensive clothes and then settled on some fancy….$40 dollar tea (yeah, when shopping in pounds…try not to convert in your head…. it makes you very very sad!) We ended the night by going to a Pub Quiz put on by one of T & F’s local friends. What a FUN idea. Everyone enjoys a couple of drinks and answers topical pop culture and England specific questions in small teams! Too much fun! Team 4 girls 1 quiz were just shy of taking home the bacon aka 50 pound bar tab!

Thursday was my last full day in London as my flight left midday on Friday. T and I grabbed the pup and headed to Hyde Park for a walk, not to mention it was a gorgeous day! To walk the park it took at least an hour, we were then sufficiently ready for lunch. We walked around Portobello Market for a bit before finding a pub… for me to get fish and chips…again. I ended my trip by seeing a lovely surprise guest, a friend I lived with for 3 months in Australia when I was 15, for drinks and then heading on to dinner at Dean Street Townhouse. All I have to say is ask for the vegetarian menu…and get the mac and cheese… oh man SO GOOD!

      DSC_3606

Friday I said my goodbyes had a quick breakfast, then I was on my way! What a fantastic way to spend a week! I am already planning my next trip, next time D will have to join me!!

      Until next time day dreamers.

    • Get ready 2015.

Posted at 12:58 PM by morningdaydreams, on January 1, 2015

      Good morning 2015!

Wow what a year. 2014 was definitely a year for the history books. Every year has its ups and downs but after 3 family weddings, I think our family had one of the best years yet. Before I take a look at whats to come for 2015, I always like to look back. Check out my 2014 New Years post by clicking here.

Looking back I actually reached most of my 2014 goals. My top goals were to sweat for the dress, stay on track and  to stay healthy. 2014 was probably my most successful year for fitness. In April, I started crossfit and I haven’t looked back since, this huge lifestyle change has really helped me to keep my top 3 goals. I am feeling fit, I am motivated and I have never felt better! The next…sort of big goal…was getting hitched! We definitely accomplished that one on one of the most magical days of my life!! I did drop the ball on learning a new language however. Before the honeymoon, I tried my best at learning some Spanish…however languages were never my strong suit. Can’t say I didn’t try though!!

So whats to come in 2015? I feel as if many of my goals will stay the same as a lot of them are on going.

      • Keep at it. I have been keeping fit by doing crossfit for about 9 months now, this is no time to stop. I am excited to keep with it and keep motivated.
      • Eat clean. This one is a joint goal for D and I. As of today we are going to start eating clean. That means no processed food, low alcohol intake and over all healthy eating.
      • Travel more. Heading to Spain on our honeymoon sparked my travel bug again. I may not be traveling all over the world in the next year, but definitely going to new places. I do have one big trip planned already though, England get ready!!
      • Get settled. I am not sure yet if this means buying a house, getting more settled at work or just in my life in general. But I feel like it is time for D and I to make a few permanent decisions in our lives as we move forward in 2015.

I am sure 2015 will be a great year, as a newly wed, as a fitness nut and for life in general. What are your 2015 goals?

Good morning 2015. Our very snowy view of Tucson this morning... CRAZY!

      Hello again day dreamers!

It is my favourite time of year already!! I still cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by. D & I are not in town for Christmas this year, but I couldn’t go without putting up a few decorations around the house to get us into the Christmas spirit. Can’t wait to get down south to put up the tree JUST in time for the holidays! More holiday updates to come…only 7 more days until Santa!!

*Once again, a little slow on the uploading! Thought I would share this before I post up the wedding pics from this past Saturday!! Enjoy!!

We flew, we ate, we drank, we segwayed. Austin, I love you. For the family day long weekend myself and 6 other girls traveled down to Austin, Texas for my (almost) sister-in-laws bachelorette. What a party! Unlike many other bachelorettes this was more of an exploration of food than drinks. I have never eaten as much as I did this weekend and oh boy will I be working it off this week!!

It was a great trip with 7 great girls! Here is a little sneak peek at our fun & food adventures!
